11 v 11 now in the works for Outdoor 2021, starting July 17
almost 2 years ago

With virtually all restrictions lifted on team sports such as soccer in Step 2 of Ontario’s reopening June 30, we’ve decided to give our traditional six-team , 11 v 11 format a fresh go, as of July 17. The Registration button above should be active late in the evening of June 29 (the night of this post).

Pre-registered players are guaranteed a spot if they complete their official sign-up by midnight July 7. We have roughly 10 full-time spots left, and need 10-12 more Alumni for that informal kick-about offering to go ahead.

Remember that you need to both complete the regular registration form and make the full payment to secure your spot.

We will keep a waiting list as well. Cheers to all.

July 17 target date for 7v7 play

If the provincial government and Ontario Soccer give the go-ahead in early July, the BASL will run a nine-game 7v7 league from July 17 to September 25 inclusively.

The current plan calls for eight teams of 12 including the keeper (88 outfielders and 8 keepers), as well as an Alumni kick-about group if we get enough registrants (16).

As of June 22, we have 91 outfielders pre-registered, so three more than the 88 needed. We’re still short one goalkeeper.

Here’s the link to sign up for the waiting list: https://ba-soccer.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ea12247e04b5e5aa5605c360b&id=29fa80bf9b&e=dcb567bde1 (“Registration” above has been de-activated).

Details about restrictions (bubbles, calling in spares, interchanging keepers, etc.) are still pending.

As usual, the fixtures are slated for the Shefford-Potvin Sports Fields in Beacon Hill North.

Stay tuned for updates.

Outdoor 2021: scenarios being studied

With just under 100 players “pre-registered” for this summer as of late May, the BA is examining various playing scenarios, with the hope of hosting some sort of footie by late July or early August.

We’re waiting for the Ontario government and Ontario Soccer to issue return-to-play rules in early June and will decide on a format and fee then, if circumstances allow.

It’s obvious that vaccinations are the cornerstone here. If too many people refuse to get the vaccine and provincial targets aren’t met, we’ll ALL pay the price: continued restrictions.

A BA Update will go out to the membership between June 4 and 8, hopefully with concrete news and details about our return to the pitch.

Please stay tuned. Merci de votre patience et bon courage.

Harbouring hope for Outdoor 2021

Bye bye to the indoor season that never was (2020-21) and hello, we hope, to some sort of on-field reunion for Outdoor 2021, though probably with a start date in June instead of the third week of May.

The plan is to hold a two-stage registration starting the week of March 29. The first stage involves simply completing the usual BA/Soccer Ontario form as a show of interest, so we can gauge numbers. This runs until roughly the end of April.

Stage two involves confirming one’s spot by paying the applicable fee, which we’ll set according to the competition format allowed and the actual number of lads keen on playing. This portion runs until about May 23 or 30, with the BASL frantically cobbling teams/cohorts together right after.

More details to come in a BA Update to our master mailing list between March 26 and 29. Check this site as well for more info the weekend of April 3-4.
