Harbouring hope for Outdoor 2021

Bye bye to the indoor season that never was (2020-21) and hello, we hope, to some sort of on-field reunion for Outdoor 2021, though probably with a start date in June instead of the third week of May.

The plan is to hold a two-stage registration starting the week of March 29. The first stage involves simply completing the usual BA/Soccer Ontario form as a show of interest, so we can gauge numbers. This runs until roughly the end of April.

Stage two involves confirming one’s spot by paying the applicable fee, which we’ll set according to the competition format allowed and the actual number of lads keen on playing. This portion runs until about May 23 or 30, with the BASL frantically cobbling teams/cohorts together right after.

More details to come in a BA Update to our master mailing list between March 26 and 29. Check this site as well for more info the weekend of April 3-4.

With COVID-19 cases rising sharply in Ottawa, the BASL has decided to wait until January 2021 to consider running an indoor league.

Check here again in late November for an update.

Vu la montée en flèche des cas de COVID-19 à Ottawa, la BASL a décidé de reporter le début potentiel de sa ligue intérieure à janvier 2021.

No BA Soccer in the fall

Because of the continued peaks and valleys of COVID-19 cases in Ottawa, the BASL has decided to drop any plans for 7v7 soccer in the early fall.

Check back here around the third week of September for a status update on indoor soccer. We’re not holding our breath…

Best wishes to all you BAers and your families in the meantime.

2020 outdoor season still in limbo

Though Ottawa sports fields are now open to groups of five or less, Ontario Soccer has suspended all sanctioned in-person soccer events until at least June 30. And On June 2, Ontario extended its state of emergency until June 30.

Sadly, that puts up even greater odds against the proposed 2020 shortened outdoor season.

A final decision by the BASL will come in early June.

If we have to cancel altogether, we’ll try to organize a multi-weekend “tournament” in the fall, maybe with a couple of relaxed, zero-contact kickabouts or small-sided games to get the rust out before.

Until then, be kind and do everything you can to keep yourself and those around you safe and healthy.
